December Favorites

Hi Darlings! I hope 2017 is off to a running start for each one of you! Do you have any makeup goals for this year? Trying to branch out? Learn something new? I say go for it. Now let’s get down to the favorites!

  1. Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick

I’m seriously behind on trying these liquid lipsticks from Stila. They are amazing. With 20 shades to choose from, there is a great variety. And they live up to their name. They really do stay all day. My persona favorite color is Bacca, a raspberry color. I wore it all day on Christmas, through eating and drinking and it looked just as good at 2am as it did at 10am.  Yes, it can be a little drying, but I popped a gloss over top and it still stayed on all day. That’s pretty powerful – because who wants to spend all day retouching their lipstick? Not this girl!

2. Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant

I like to exfoliate. A lot. But some exfoliators are not meant to be used daily, and my skin was becoming redder and redder by using them daily. Then I found Dermalogica’s Microfoliant. I love that it’s effective, yet gentle enough to use every day. Hallelujah!

3. Alterna Caviar Style Satin Rapid Blowout Balm

If you know me, or have read much here, you know how much I dislike washing and styling my hair, so I try to do it only once or twice a week (it’s actually GOOD for your hair, too) and when I do get to the point of needing a wash, I don’t want to spend forever drying and styling. Hello Satin Rapid Blowout Balm! Just a couple of pumps of Alterna’s magic balm on my towel-dried head cuts my drying time in half. It also seems to help with flyaways, leaving hair dry and smooth. It’s one of those products that makes you wonder how you ever lived without it.

4. LORAC Pro Palette 3

I haven’t picked up a new eyeshadow palette in quite a while (mostly because I have so many single shades), but this palette caught my eye and I decided to splurge.

I love the warmth of the colors, and the pigmentation is very good. Yes, there’s a little fallout, but not terrible. A spritz of setting spray will go a long way to keep fallout at bay.  The mix of matte and shimmer (not glitter) is even and I find that I am able to create lots of looks from just this palette alone. Oh, and it comes with a shadow primer, too!

Let’s enjoy 2017 together – I don’t know about you, but I am ready for this new year ahead of us!

August Favorites

Oh my – so much goodness I found in the month of August. The list may not be long, but the love I have for these products runs deep.

1. I am in love, love loving this Blue Ionic BlueWave NanoIonic Square/Round Brush. The squarish design gives you so much more traction on wet hair to dry faster and with less frustration. Since I bought it, it’s been my go-to hair brush. The extra-large is shown here at $28, so it’s not even that pricey of a brush. bioionic.com

2. NARS you keep breathing new life into my makeup game. Case in point; Rigel. This metallic Rose Gold eyeshadow is so gorgeous I could weep. Yes, it’s just that good. It’s gorgeously light and luminous when applied dry, but apply wet for MAJOR shadow drama. You will be lit from within! $29 narscosmetics.com

Those have been my new favorites in the month of August. Still going strong today. Don’t you love trying something new and realizing you’ve been missing it your entire adult life, but didn’t know until just now? Yeah, me too.

July Favorites

It’s that time again and guess what? I’m on time! There are a few products that I’ve been using daily that I’m really enjoying.

  1. Rodial Contour Brush

rodial conturThis angled brush is perfect for working on your contour – I especially enjoy using it with the Rodial Banana Powder I
mentioned last mont in the favorites post.

This brush is soft, picks up powder easily and blends seamlessly. It’s been my go to brush since I acquired.

2. Kérastase Elixer Collection

fondant-elixir-ultime-a-l-huile-sublimatrice-260-410-202This collection has captured my heart. My hair, despite my every-four-weeks coloring and daily hot tools usage. The conditioner is great at moisturizing without weighing down hair.

The same can be said for the spray, which I use lightly on towel dried hair. The Ultime set is for any hair type (even us ladies with thin or fine hair), and it lives up to its word. Weightless.

elixir-ultime-huile-cheveux-fins-260-410-200These products have kept my hair looking so great during the summer’s worst (it’s been tiny bit hot and humid, if you hadn’t heard), so eliminating the frizz my naturally wavy hair has is super important. Carrot Top, I am not. LOL

3. Hard Candy Plumping Serum Volumizing Lip Glosshard candy

This inexpensive Wal-Mart find has my lips happy. It’s formula is moisturizing and a little plumping, shiny gloss with a hint of shimmer. The light light color makes it great to swipe on a
nytime of day, but you can also use it as a topper for other lip products like stains, matte lipsticks and so on.

There are several light colors that all work pretty similarly, so feel free to try more than one or just close your eyes and point.

And that’s all I’ve got for July – and look, we’re right on time!

June Favorites

There’s so much good stuff I’ve been using this past month. So, so much! So let’s get started.

Paula’s Choice Calm Redness Relief Cleanser
I have very red cheeks. Not Rosacea, as far as I can tell, but highly pigmented cheeks. Paula’s Choice Calm Redness Relief Cleanser helps to soothe and calm my cheeks while removing dirt, grime, and makeup at the same time.  Actually, the entire line of Redness Relief products are great, but it all starts with the cleanser, right? You can find the entire line at paulaschoice.com – I like shopping on their site directly because they allow you to purchase SAMPLES (for .50), which is a great way to try something new without breaking the bank to do so – or to buy products that are the perfect size for traveling. The full size is around $17 – not too bad at all.

NARSSKIN Double Refining Exfoliator
One thing I learned from Nars’ International Makeup Artist Uzo is that EXFOLIATING is the way to keep your skin looking young and fresh. Sure, moisturizer is important as well, but keeping those dead skin cells turning over is the way to glowing luminous skin. I really like this formula because you can feel the grains, but they are small and rounded. They don’t hurt or irritate skin, but after you rinse the product off your face, you can definitely tell your skin is smoother. This is the time to use that moisturizer you love. It now has a better chance of sinking into skin, and giving you the benefits you desire. At $34, it may sound a little expensive, but you will be surprised at how long it lasts. I’ve been using mine for a little over 3 months now and haven’t had to buy a new bottle. And yes, you can (and should) use this type of exfoliator every day. I prefer to use in the AM, but PM would be fine also. NARS products can be purchased in the boutique (if you’re in Atlanta), online, or in a full Sephora store (not the ones in JCP)

Rodial Instaglam Compact Deluxe Banana PowderINSTAGLAM-COMPACT-DELUXE-BA
While I have heard of the banana powder craze, Rodial’s version was my first to try. A true skeptic, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I am a believer now!

I put this pressed powder on thickly after I use my under eye concealer and let it “bake” for a few minutes while I finish up the rest of my makeup. I do the same thing along my jawline, right below my contour.

Once I have finished my makeup, I dust off the excess and BAM – my under eye discoloration is gone and my eyes look well rested. It doesn’t settle into lines or look cakey at all! My jawline looks amazing and it makes my contour look even better. Now I have to try Rodial’s Contouring Powder! The luxe compact is $57 and is supposed to be available online and in Blue Mercury stores, but I haven’t been able to find it.  When that information becomes available, I’ll leave a comment for those of you who are interested in purchasing it.

Terry De Gunzburg Thé Glacé Parfum
theglace
I love perfume. I’m always switching it up and trying new fragrances based on the time of the year and my mood. Despite my penchant for fragrance changes, I’m falling hard for The Glacé. What a gorgeous fragrance this is. It’s a light citrus (I smell a hint of lime) that dries down to a soft musk that is still undeniably feminine. Sure, it’s expensive; it even smells expensive. There’s a sophistication in the fragrance that screams luxe. However, at $170 for a 100ml bottle really is not that expensive, comparatively speaking. And if you love it as much as I do, you’ll wear it all the time and get your money’s worth out of it. Look for it on Barney’s website.

That’s all I have to share for June favorites. Leave a comment down below if you’d be interested in reading about UNFavorites.

April Favorites

It’s that time again when I let you know the products I’ve been loving. I’d love to hear if you’ve been enjoying anything special yourself. Feel free to leave a comment below.

  1. Make Up For Ever’s Sens’Eyes Eye and Lip Cleanser is such a great product for removing even the longest wearing eyeliner, mascara, shadow and lip products. The best thing about it, in my opinion, is that it isn’t greasy/oily like some eye makeup removers can be. And, a little goes a long way. I’ve actually been using the travel size for many months now (you can find that at Sephora stores and maybe on their website. The travel I believe is $10 and the full size (100ml) is $25.
  2. Hard Candy Plumping Serum Volumizing Lip Gloss in Cake Walk has become a favorite go-to when I want a little color and shine, or just want something on my lips so they aren’t dry. Yes, it’s a volumizing formula, but it doesn’t have that distinct tingle that similar products of yesteryear had. No stinging or hotness at all. There is a tiny bit of shimmer, but it’s not overkill and it’s very fine. You could comfortably use this during the day and on into the night. One of the best things is the price: $6! You can find it at your local Walmart store, or on the Walmart website. With the price so low, you could definitely splurge and buy a couple of shades.
  3. Nars Laguna Bronzing Powder isn’t new, or new to me. I had used it in the past, but for some reason, stopped using it and was using something else. I’ve recently rekindled my love for this bronzer because it’s so great for contouring.  It’s natural looking, and blends out beautifully. You can build the color up as much as your like, or have just a sheer wash of color, depending on your skin tone.  If you’ve used it before, you know what I’m talking about.  Of course there are deeper and lighter shades, if needed, but this has become a cult classic.  You can pick up the regular size for $39 dollars. However, if you adore this product as much as I do, you’re in luck! There’s a limited edition version that is much larger and fragranced with Tiare flower. It smells delicious and comes with its own perfectly shaped brush. You can pick this beauty up online and definitely in a NARS Boutique, but I’m not sure about Sephora. It’s $59 which I think is a steal! It’s a short and sweet list this time, but these are the products that really stood out for me and I hope you get a chance to give them a try.

February Favorites

It’s once again that time of the month for me to share with you the beauty products I’ve been loving on.

  1. Clinique Sweet PotsCandid Cassis Sweet Pot

These little cuties are so great! Unscented, one side has a sugar scrub to use for soft, supple lips, while the other side has a burst of color like the one here in Candid Cassis. You can see the bottom side has the grainy texture, while the top side is creamy lip balm. The whole line is really beautiful and they’re all really light on color, so don’t expect a big color payoff. That’s not what these babies were designed to do. But they fit in a pocket, purse or whatever you carry, so you’ll never be without. At $19.50 a piece, I wouldn’t call them outrageously expensive, but more than a drugstore brand. (They may also have Black Honey, a cult favorite!)

2. Kerastase Elixer Ultime Bi-Phase Spray Oil
You may be thinking, “Oil, on my hair? No way!”, but hear me out! Heat styling is very damaging to hair. The oils in the Elixer help protect hair and give it that shine that you get from the salon.

It can also be used after dry shampoo to put a little shine back into the ends of hair.

Best part? It is great for fine to normal hair! It even helps increase the size of the hair shaft, giving hair more volume.  OK, maybe the best part is the smell; it’s lovely.

3. Aveda Tourmaline Charged Exfoliating Cleanser

I don’t know about you, but I love the feeling of a freshly exfoliated face. It just makes me feel refreshed and my makeup goes on much more easily. However, they say you should only exfoliate 2-3 times a week. Not enough for me! I like an everyday exfoliation and I’ve found it in Aveda’s Tourmaline Charged Exfoliating Cleanser. Tourmaline is gentle enough to use each day, and the formula is moisturizing, so your skin doesn’t overproduce oil (because who wants that?)

Alright, my dears, that’s all I have for February – let me know in the comments below if you’d like to also hear about UNFavorites. If you want it, I’d love to share with you, so let me know if you do.

Brett

August Favorites!

August, you’ve come and gone, but I couldn’t ignore the favorites I discovered and continue to love throughout the month.

First and foremost: My feet. Let’s just say my heels are pretty much in bad shape all the time. Scratchy, scaly, rough heels are not attracting anyone. But using the Amope Pedi Perfect has made a huge difference. Used on dry skin, the rotating file grinds down the tough skin, leaving it smooth and ready for lotion. It’s not a one and done deal, but with regular use in between pedicures, you’ll be able to keep your feet looking nice and soft. It’s a little pricey, but if you think about how often you’ll use it, it’s worth the cost. You can find it anywhere from the grocery store to the drug store to probably even drugstore.com or Ulta.

Wrinkles – be gone! I’ve been lucky to not have many wrinkles, and I believe it’s due to the fact that I moisturize and use sunscreen daily. However, Caudalie’s Anti-wrinkle Eye and Lip Cream is a crazy duo that I really love. It’s a great moisturizer, and is safe for the tender skin around the eyes and the mouth. It’s not greasy – it melts into skin instantly, offering moisturizing benefits and skin plumping ingredients to keep eyes and lips looking youthful. Because let’s be honest, the crows feet and lip lines are a dead giveaway we’re not 19 anymore! Available at Sephora.

Last but not least, I’ve found a line of makeup brushes that are reasonably priced, and work really well. They’re from the Drew Barrymore collection, FLOWER. I’m obsessed with the powder brush. It’s soft, picks up powder easily and places it evenly on the face. I can’t vouch for the longevity of the brush, but the prices are so reasonable, even if you only get 6 months to a year out of it, you’re in good shape. It’s definitely worth checking out. I think it’s important to save where you can, so you can splurge on that one item you can’t live without! The FLOWER line is available exclusively at Wal-Mart.

That’s all I’ve got for August favorites. Let me know if there’s anything else you’re dying to hear about. Happy to share and love to hear your comments.

xoxo,
Brett

July Favorites

Hi all! I know this is a little late, but considering the circumstances, I hope you’ll forgive me this time. (Ok, so I’m usually late anyway, but I was trying to be on time with this one!)

I love a good cleanser – and especially one that exfoliates, yet is safe for sensitive skin. The Suki Skincare Exfoliating Foaming Cleanser covers all the angles. Its bright lemon fragrance, gentle exfoliation and generous lather leaves skin feeling soft, smooth and refreshed. It has become my staple cleanser because it preps skin perfectly for moisturizing.

I go to an Aveda salon, and they always have little samples of things to take home and try. One in particular has become a favorite and it’s the Botanical Kinetics Intense Hydrating Soft Creme. I like it because it’s good for all skin types, it isn’t greasy, it melts into skin fast, yet leaves skin with a moisturized feeling for hours. If you have dry skin, they also have a “rich” formula. Same great product, just more moisture for those with skin that needs a little more moisture.

I love a little luminosity on my face. Milani’s Illuminating Face Powder in Hermosa Rose does a great job of making my face look lit from within, warming up my face with a hint of bronzer – without being too sparkly or shockingly highlighted. It just leaves a gorgeous all over glow. I use the Hermosa Rose, but there are two other shades, so lighter and darker skins can take advantage as well. Milani is a drugstore brand, and I typically get mine from CVS, because they have promotions a lot of the time. When I repurchased mine, it was Buy 1, Get 1 50% off. Not too bad!

Looks like I’m due for an August favorites – so keep your eyes open for that!
(I promise to get that finished before the end of September!)

xoxo,
B

June Favorites

It’s true! I’m actually compiling my June favorites on time! Are you as excited as I am? I’m pretty excited!

Alterna-dry-shampooFirst up is a new dry shampoo that I have really been enjoying – Alterna’s Bamboo Style Cleanse Extend Dry Shampoo (it comes in both Lemon Sugar and Bamboo Leaf – both smell great). I love this brand of dry shampoo because it’s practically translucent. Unless you go WAY overboard on it, you will not get that white cast that us dark headed beauties run into much of the time. So, that’s a definitely plus. It also helps with some body, but doesn’t feel unnatural as I’ve noticed with some other brands. You can find this baby at Sephora.

Next up – GlamGlow’s Bright Mud 3-minute eye treatment.

glamglowbrightmud

Please and thank you. Whether you’ve pulled an all-nighter, partied too hard, had an ugly crying session -it doesn’t matter. This 3 minute treatment will calm those nasty puffy under eyes and leave you feeling back to normal. And they’re small enough to carry with you, in case you need an emergency treatment! Just pat on, wait 3 minutes and gently wipe off. So easy. What did I do before these? Also available at Sephora. I’ve always been pretty good at protecting my face from too much sun. I guess that’s party of the reason that at 37 (soon to be 38), people mistake me for being much, much younger. A blessing and a curse – well, more of a blessing now.

Anyway, Skiskinc-physicalmatte50spfnceuticals Physical Matte SPF 50 cream is great. It helps keep your oil at bay (although, you will still sweat, gotta mention that!) and protects skin at SPF 50! Win-win!

You can wear this alone (it’s slightly tinted) or under your usual makeup. Definitely something to consider this summer. Available at skinceuticals.com

I’m in love with the new L’Oreal Le Matte Lipstick Pens. They have incredible L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Le Matte Lip Pen in Matte For Me L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Le Matte Lip Pen in Matte-r of Factpigmentation, a little moisture, a matte finish and while they may not be touted as “long wearing”, I think they do pretty well in that area, too. My favorite color is the bright pink. It makes me feel confident and sassy, and what could be wrong with that??

These are available now that it’s July! I’d stock up! Check your local drugstore  or other big box store that carries cosmetics.

That’s all I’ve got for my June favorites. I hope you enjoyed hearing what I’m loving right now, and perhaps are inspired to try one or more of these products yourself!

February Favorites

I’ve been rekindling my love with some forgotten products and here they are:

1. Clean & Clear Oil-Free Shine Control Moisturizer
This is a great light moisturizer for the day that helps keep oil slicks away. I see this becoming my daily go-to product over the next few months as it warms up. I still use a heavier moisturizer at night and my day and night serums, but this is an excellent day lotion.

2. Londontown Lakur nail color in Thames from the Eye
I’ve been wearing this on my toes for a while now. I love the color. It’s unique and sophisticated and fun – plus it reminds me of ocean water which has been nice during the crazy weather we’ve been having. But, the best thing about this polish it its staying power. It really lasts! I will be looking into getting some additional colors once my obsession with this turquoise color fades.

3. Ahava Dead Sea Osmoter™Concentrate
This is my holy grail serum. I’m sure I’ve mentioned it before, but it bears repeating. It’s amazing. So light and silky feeling, but it really helps hold moisture in my skin. I can tell if I forget to use it. It’s perfect to use day and night along with your preferred day and night cream. It lasts a long time – I’ve been using mine for about 2 months now and have not had to replace it yet. So, while it’s a bit pricey (about $60) – it’s worth it because it will last you at least a couple of months, bringing the price down considerably each month.
