OPI partnered with Hello Kitty for a collection they call Hello Kitty for OPI. These fun, happy, cute colors are the epitome of everything Hello Kitty stands for.
There are 12 colors in the collection and OPI was kind enough to send me six of those colors, as shown in the image below. All are definitely a shade of pink, which I like for spring, don’t you?
I couldn’t wait to test them out and find my favorite color(s). Here’s a swatch of the four pinks (in the same order as the image above:
I really wasn’t sure what to expect, and the colors I thought might be my favorites were different than I expected. I really like the ones in the middle – and the lightest pink (white), Let’s be Friends!, I could see wearing with a black and white outfit.
Now on to the shimmers – they surprised me a little bit Charmmy and Sugar stood out with the slight pink hue and colored glitter as you can see on my ring finger. However, Kitty White (on my pinky),
was almost non-existent looking. So I thought, hey, let’s try this as a top coat on one of the other pinks. YES! This took Spoken from the Heart from a pretty pink to a party pink. I love the fine shimmer of Kitty White, but it really needs a canvas of color underneath it to really do it justice.
Have you tried this collection from OPI? Which brand of nail polish is your go-to polish? I love hearing from you all and learning the things that work and don’t work for you. You all often teach me things and I’m so grateful for each and every one of you!
Now I’ve got to run take off these six different nail polish colors before I run into anyone I know!
Fall may be far off, but Fashion Week has already come and gone.
Wes Gordon’s Fall/Winter 2016 collection is inspired by “downtown romantics and effortless elegance,” and is a celebration of the designer’s favorite things, pieces, techniques and ideas. To pair with the black, white and grey hues, Rita Remark for essie created a nail look that mimicked broken glass by layering set in stones over hors d’oeuvres.
essie nail products used:
ridge filling base coat
set in stones
gel.setter top coat
Get the look:
1. Apply ridge filling base coat to clean, filed nails.
2. Next, apply one coat of sand tropez.
3. Then, layer one coat of set in stones over one coat of hors d’oeuvres to create an ultra shiny reflection on the nails.
4. Finish with gel.setter top coat.
Expert tip: Use gel.setter top coat over glitter polishes to ensure the glitter stays in place longer.
Organ donation is not a subject that usually pops up in casual conversation, something Todd and Tara Storch – founders of Taylor’s Gift Foundation – know well. So ‘Taylor Blue’ was born.
The couple established Taylor’s Gift after losing their 13-year-old daughter, Taylor, in a skiing accident in March 2010. Taylor’s Gift supports and promotes official Donate Life organ donor registrations in the United States.
“We knew we needed a ‘conversation starter’ about organ donation,” Tara says. “We’re aware that this isn’t an easy topic for most people, so we decided we needed something that could make it easier to talk about.
“Since our largest support group comes from women 18-44, we decided that a nail polish would be a great way to spark conversation. Taylor had the most beautiful eyes in a gorgeous blue and always got compliments on them, even as a baby. Only a week before the accident, she said to me, ‘Mom, I love the color of my eyes. That’s the color I want for my bridesmaids dresses some day.’ From that point on, that color was precious to us, and there was no question the color of the nail polish would be ‘Taylor Blue.’
“We introduced ‘Taylor Blue’ last year for our Paint It Forward Legacy Gift campaign, hoping it would spark conversation. And boy, did it! Even men painted their thumb!”
April is National Donate Life Month. ‘Taylor Blue,’ created by OPI, will be available for purchase on www.taylorsgift.org from through the end of April. The 2013 Paint It Forward campaign raised $40,000. ‘Taylor Blue’ was sold and shipped to every state in the United States, every province in Canada, and also had worldwide sales. The goal for 2014 is $100,000.
Net proceeds from Paint It Forward support the mission of Taylor’s Gift and its Legacy Gift program, which provides financial help to families touched by organ donation.
“The name of our Legacy Gift campaign – Paint It Forward – is a play on the words Pay It Forward,” Tara explains. “To us, it means that people are spreading the message of Taylor’s Gift with this great tool called ‘Taylor Blue.’ They have the opportunity to help someone else’s life one day. This color became the link that made organ donation an easy topic to talk about, discuss and share. And it all started with a conversation on how you can ‘outlive yourself.’”
About Taylor’s Gift Foundation Taylor’s Gift Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Taylor’s Gift Foundation was founded by 2010 with a mission to ‘Regift Life, Renew Health and Restore Families’ by increasing official organ donor registries. Taylor’s Gift Foundation also sponsors the Donate Life Rose Bowl Parade, provides Taylor’s Gift Scholarships to graduating seniors and is launching Taylor’s Legacy Gift Grants to help those touched by organ donation with financial difficulties. I’ve been rekindling my love with some forgotten products and here they are:
1. Clean & Clear Oil-Free Shine Control Moisturizer This is a great light moisturizer for the day that helps keep oil slicks away. I see this becoming my daily go-to product over the next few months as it warms up. I still use a heavier moisturizer at night and my day and night serums, but this is an excellent day lotion.
2. Londontown Lakur nail color in Thames from the Eye I’ve been wearing this on my toes for a while now. I love the color. It’s unique and sophisticated and fun – plus it reminds me of ocean water which has been nice during the crazy weather we’ve been having. But, the best thing about this polish it its staying power. It really lasts! I will be looking into getting some additional colors once my obsession with this turquoise color fades.
3. Ahava Dead Sea Osmoter™Concentrate This is my holy grail serum. I’m sure I’ve mentioned it before, but it bears repeating. It’s amazing. So light and silky feeling, but it really helps hold moisture in my skin. I can tell if I forget to use it. It’s perfect to use day and night along with your preferred day and night cream. It lasts a long time – I’ve been using mine for about 2 months now and have not had to replace it yet. So, while it’s a bit pricey (about $60) – it’s worth it because it will last you at least a couple of months, bringing the price down considerably each month.
‘Moonbow’ Nail Design Created by Celebrity Manicurist Elle for Dermelect ‘ME’ at the Cynthia Rowley Fall 2014 Presentation on Wednesday, February 12th at the Diamond Horseshow in NYC.
“Cynthia’s key word describing the inspiration of her collection was ‘moonbows,’ a reflection on the romanticism of her sporty chic line for the Fall 2014 season,” says Elle. “Representing a rainbow of darker shades not using any primary colors, we layered two shades from the same color family on one nail, beginning with a darker red, to orange, yellow, green, indigo and purple to achieve the perfect ‘moonbow’.”
I know it’s a LITTLE early to be thinking about Christmas, Hanukkah or Winter in general. But these cute holiday nails just wouldn’t wait, so stash this away until you need a little holiday cheer!
I love Dermelect ME Peptide-infused polishes because not only do they look good, your nails actually benefit from using them. They have a pure protein peptide that helps strengthen nails, contain vitamins and lock moisture in. They’re the anti-aging darlings of the nail world! And because the first coat bonds to the nail and the second coat fuses to the first, your manicure will last longer than other traditional polishes. You can pick them up on their website and have them shipped to your door. Right now each polish is $14, and they offer free shipping on orders of $50 or more.
To get these fun looks you’ll need the polishes and a striping or detailer brush. You can pick these up at a place like Sally’s Beauty Supply very inexpensively. The brushes are the key to getting the lines of the Candy Cane and Snowflakes thin and precise.
Oh My! I don’t know what I had been waiting for! I got my nails shellac’d yesterday and it’s amazing! It’s similar to the gel nail polish in that in lasts for up to two weeks and uses your own nails. No acrylics needed! And it gives the nail strength which is a God-send for me, because I’m so rough with my nails and break them all the time! I am hoping this will help that problem and that I can keep it up to have a nice, manicured hand all the time now.
It’s a little more expensive than a regular manicure, but only by about $5. And with the extra time you get between visits to the salon, I definitely think it’s worth it. While there aren’t TONS of colors to choose from, they have a variety of colors and shades that will appeal to most. For me, red was perfect, though I’m already planning my next trip and the color I will get!

For those of us who don’t have an hour to spend on a regular basis to indulge in a manicure (or even just a polish change!), I have found an amazing product that has made my at home mani/pedi experience so much easier.
After I’ve picked out the color for my nails or toes and give them at least two good coats, I break out the Jessica Quick Dry. This is a little bottle of magic. Simply use the dropper and drip a drop onto each nail and Jessica instantly goes to work, providing a barrier for smudges, dents and helps nails dry within 60 seconds.
No more going to bed with wet nails only to wake up with hair marks embedded in your polish! So go ahead, no excuses, paint those pretty little fingers any time, day or night!
